Piotr Jaroszewicz was born on July 8, 1923, in Nowa Wilejka, Poland (now Lithuania). He studied law and economics at the University of Warsaw and later joined the Polish Army. Jaroszewicz quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a close associate of Marshal Marian Spychalski, the Minister of Defense. In 1967, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense, a position he held until 1970.
