Sometimes, the Dell Command Update GUI may have the password field greyed out or the BIOS password field may appear blank. A PowerShell script can resolve this:
Download and open the utility wizard on an administrative workstation.
Use your mouse or arrow keys to expand the tab, then select Admin Password (or System Password depending on your firmware version).
Run the downloaded file as an and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update.

Fix (that worked for me):
Ensure your laptop is plugged into and has at least 10% battery charge before starting.
Dell also recommends disconnecting external devices (hard drives, printers, scanners, etc.) before performing a BIOS update.
